Chicks Hatching in Cherry Class!

This morning the children were all very excited because one of the eggs in their incubator had hatched and there was a little chick in there!

It was lying down, tired after the hard work of getting out of the eggshell, but within minutes it was cheeping and standing up, ruffling its downy feathers!

The children have already established that it is a female chick and have named her Ella.  You can tell if the chick is male or female by the colour.  Male chicks are yellow and female's are brown.

We hope that there will be a few more hatching today, as some of the eggs have cracks and are showing signs that something might be happening very soon!
