Victorians at Holdenby House

On Thursday 6th June the children in Cherry class spent the day at Holdenby House, Northamptonshire, experiencing how life was for servants in the Victorian times. They all came to school in the morning, dressed up as Victorian servant children.

They spent the day in role as Victorian servants taken from a workhouse to undertake jobs around the big house.  They learnt how to use a mangle, a dolly tub, etc.  They took part in workshops in the kitchen and laundry room where, 'only perfection is good enough''.  In the afternoon they were presented to 'Her Ladyship.'

The children worked really hard, and now have a first hand idea of how hard the children had to work in those days.  They have decided that children have an easier life nowadays than they did in those days!
