Hazel learn what a Carnyx is!

In topic, the children in Hazel class have been learning about an ancient Celtic instrument called a Carnyx.  It was a type of bronze trumpet with an elongated S shape held so that the long straight central piece was vertical and the short mouthpiece and end section with the much wider bell were horizontal in opposed directions.  The bell was made in the shape of an open mouthed boar's or other animal's head.

They listened to the sounds it makes and learnt about some of the history behind this instrument.

Then they all had a go at modelling their own versions out of clay!

It was a really interesting lesson.
