This afternoon we had a special visitor from the Air Ambulance who came out to our school to take an assembly. He told the children all about the work the Air Ambulance does. He even brought along the children's Air Ambulance mascot called Blade! The children were really excited to meet hime! The charity receives no government funding and relies totally on charitable donations.
Since starting in 2003 they now fly two local air ambulances serving a total of five counties: Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland. Their critical care paramedics, doctors and pilots attend an average of 10 rescue missions a day and within minutes can be on the ground delivering lifesaving care at road traffic collisions, sporting events, industrial accidents or medical emergencies such as cardiac arrest at home. The helicopter can fly at 185 mph and carries the very latest lifesaving equipment. So it's a very valuable service.
